Write Your Obit Before Darting Across Beverly
I had never been to the Bootleg Theater before seeing The Obits there a few weeks ago. It’s an interesting venue. There are 2 rooms. You enter into a room with a big stage, a bar, some tables and stools. This is the smaller of the 2 rooms. The one thing that annoyed me about this room was that the music from the big room was being blasted into the small room via speakers almost as loudly as if you were in the big room with the band was playing. I really don’t need this. Sometimes my bleeding ears just need a break from the loud music, nothing against the band on stage, just please allow me to purchase a beverage in relative peace and/or quiet. So, the second room is larger, it has a dance floor area in front of the stage and also has a area of theater style seats in the back … I think they do plays here too, or a least that’s the vibe of the place.
Obits made a quick stop in LA before leaving for Japan the next day. It was fun to see them and good to see Rick. A few San Diego friends made the trek up to see them too. Aside from the harrowing need to dart across Beverly Blvd to get from the venue’s parking lot to the actual venue, all is well here. There is really no convenient crosswalk to get to, you really just have to dart across the busy street. My complaint, aside from the death-defying street crossing and the music being too loud in the non-rock room? The fact the the venue is not near anything, so there were no bacon-wrapped-hot dog venders outside when the show was over …
Anyway, The Obits were great, I realized while watching them, that I only knew about half of their songs, I guess I need to study up for next time …
