Not Much Lately
I haven’t been shooting too much lately. I was scheduled to shoot the Jon Bunch memorial show last month in Santa Ana, in fact, I was asked to be one of the official photographers, and to have some of my images used in a documentary being made about that show … Unfortunately, I got sick and was unable to attend.
Things turned around this weekend, even though I didn’t touch my cameras … I got a text from a friend asking if I would assist on a photo shoot with The Vandals for the cover of the OC Weekly. I had asked him a number of times over the years if I could assist. I’ve never been a studio photographer, never set up lights, I rarely even use a flash. I figured the best way to learn is to assist someone doing it … I was happy to get the text …
We set up an outdoor “studio” in the driveway of the house where we were shooting, then tried 2 other locations (in the garage and the backyard) … I was able to snap a few “behind the scenes” type shots on my phone … and trust that I am not breaking any confidences by sharing these images here.
The outdoor “studio.”
The Backyard.
Every photo shoot needs a Warren!
After the Vandals’ shoot, I dropped off 5 framed pieces for the grand opening event of WE Labs at The Packard . Robbie at WE Labs is very supportive, no only of me, but of local art and artists … The show is curated by Niko from ArtX who is also ruling the the Long Beach art world with her shows, classes and studio rentals … Come check out the show on Friday, April 8, 6:00 – 11:00pm 205 E. Anaheim Ave, Long Beach, CA. It’s really a great space and I’m happy to be involved!
